On Friday, November 16, 2018, the Oregon (OH) Fire Department received a call for a structure fire. The department’s ambulance unit was taking up from another run and saw the column of smoke in the distance. On arrival, the first-due engine laid a large diameter hoseline into the scene.
The original fire building sat off the road and was a large garage with numerous automobiles as exposures. The fire was well-involved on the arrival of firefighters, and there were oxygen and acetylene tanks inside the garage structure.

The fire quickly communicated to the semi-attached modular truss roof dwelling. Command ordered companies into a defensive posture in fear of collapse of the garage and when fire had overtaken and burnt through the entire rear section of the home’s roof.
With a well-involved attic fire, the department’s aerial ladder and numerous handlines went into service. Despite the loss of the structures and some pigs, units were able to keep the fire from extending to the nearby home and rescued the family’s dog.
