Portable Monitor

The Akron Brass Company now has available a new two-inlet, lightweight, portable monitor with reduced friction loss. The monitor, Style 3420 Apollo, weighs 36-pounds (without the discharge pipe and tips), and features a waterway design which has reduced friction loss within the monitor to less than 10 psi at 800 gpm. The unit can be interchanged between the truck mount and portable base with a self-locking latch.

Constructed of Pyrolite, the Apollo has a 3-inch waterway with a 2 1/2-inch discharge and two 2 1/2-inch clapper inlets.

Trauma Kit

The Ferno-Washington Trauma Kit, Model 685, provides a variety of the materials EMTs most often require such as: an Ambu Mark II Universal Resuscitator for emergency pulmonary therapy; an air splint kit with inflatable splints to fit all limbs and immobilize them in case of fractures or dislocations; a blanket required as standard therapy in shock treatment; and a carrying case with shoulder strap.

Apparatus

Hendrickson Manufacturing Co. has recently developed a custom cab, Model 1871 -W. Maximum visibility is provided by a 2778 square inch windshield. The cab doors open to a full 85 degree angle and have an opening 36-inches wide. Six people can sit in the cab, according to the manufacturer.

Extra features include 12 manual reset circuit breakers, keyless ignition, and dual air pressure gage and dual air pressure warning lights.

Alternators

The Leece-Neville Division of ShellerGlobe Corporation has developed two alternators designed specifically for ambulances. Model 7706 AA operates with an external regulator (No. 5078 R) while Model 7706 JA has a built-in, adjustable, solid-state regulator. Both are rated at 14 volts, 165 amps (maximum) at 77°F ambient and 14 volts, 145 amps (maximum) at 200°F ambient.

The units feature high output at all engine speeds and compact construction to fit most applications and are designed for use on gasoline engines.

Battery Isolators

Sure Power Products of Portland has introduced Schottky diode multi-battery isolators designed to meet the U.S. General Services Administration KKK-A-18221 specifications.

These diodes are required in multi-battery isolators because t hey offer a low voltage drop across the diode and a fast turn on and turn off time. They are designed for medical equipment and for vehicles with alternators up to 160 amp capacity.

Hose Strap

Atlas Safety Equipment Co. Inc. has developed No. 271 nylon hose and ladder strap to help control charges hose. The straps have corrosion-resistant aluminum hooks.

Waterdrill

Amfire Industries, Inc. has recently introduced a Waterdrill that has 50-percent greater torque and 10-percent higher rpm than earlier models. It will cut wood, metal and dense concrete even more rapidly than before, and it can recirculate water a greater distance from a pumper.

Amfire will modify earlier models of the Waterdrill for a nominal cost so that these earlier units will also deliver the increased power available in the new model.

Smoke Detector

A battery powered residential smoke detector 7078, has been introduced by Chloride Pyrotector.

Operating on the ionization principle, the unit features a test circuit and a flashing LED that indicates proper operation. It functions on the dual chamber design and in case of fire, the detector sounds a long, sustained alarm.

Scanner

Electra Company has introduced the Bearcat 150, a scanner with 10 channels and a vacuum flourescent display. A one-piece “flat plane” panel controls all functions. Molded, raised key locator positions on the panel are designed to assure more positive operation.

The radio covers five bands from 30 to 512 MHz. In addition to automatic scanning, direct channel access permits quick recall of any individual channel. The radio also features automatic lockout of any channel when desired and patented selective scan delay.

Amplifier

BP Systems, Inc. has developed the Cardio Sonic Acoustic Amplifier.

The unit is non-electronic, has no wires, batteries or moving parts and allows the user to monitor patient blood pressure, breath sounds and heart activity through heavy clothing. The design guarantees signal strength in noisy environments such as monitoring during ambulance and helicopter transports, according to the manufacturer.

Hand Lights

Apollo Manufacturing Co. has introduced the Q/Hal-1 Series of halogen sealed beam hand lights. Weighing 2.3-pounds, the light features a 25,000+ candlepower beam, metal construction, built-in 12-volt charger and adjustable neck strap.

Duration of the light is 50 minutes per charge, with a 16-hour recharge cycle time. According to the manufacturer , the light has a life expectancy of 1000 charging cycles.

Model Q/Hal-2 has these features, but weighs 2.6-pounds and has a 90-minute per charge light duration.

Traffic Light Priority Unit

Fire apparatus, ambulances and other emergency vehicles are expedited using the Sarasota Vehicle Priority System. This unit needs no driver involvement and automatically secures directional pre-emption of traffic signals far back from the intersection. The 24-channel detector fits into the traffic light controller housing and connects to an inductive loop buried in the pavement.

Battery Conditioner

Koehler Manufacturing Company has recently introduced a double battery conditioner, model No. 5680. The new model No. 5680 joins its single battery conditioner model No. 5660.

Both single and double conditioners are now available to reduce maintenance, and lengthen battery life for vehicles with either single or double 12-volt battery banks, according to the manufacturer.

These automatic conditioners mount permanently on the vehicle, connect to the vehicle battery and have an “on-board” recessed male connector for an A/C, 120 volt power line.

Features include: dual solid-state circuitry, individually charged battery banks and dual solid-state indicator lights.

Computer

RF Applications Inc. has introduced a 2400 computer-terminal used for mobile telecommunications. It delivers hard copy printout in vehicles or anywhere two-way radio equipment, including telephone or telex, exists.

The base terminal is a microprocessor which permits memory, selective calling, recall and editing. Computer interface and compatability is available. Transmission speed over the radio system is at 180 words per minute.

Fire Research Corporation has developed the 12-vdc Twin Lite, a four-bulb light that comes with any combination of spot or flood. This unit eliminates the need for an inverter system and can light two areas at once.

Flow Test Kit

The A. J. Abrams Company has introduced a kit for water flow testing that includes a pitot tube, and a choice of one test gage, either 0-100 psi or 0-200 psi, with instructions. A second gage is available as an option.

The stainless steel tube feat ures a recesses blade, with three marked steps for different diameter streams. This design provides for the least possible divergence of the flow past the tube and allows the gage to be turned toward the operator for easy reading.
