Gloves

Globe has introduced a flame-resistant Model GL-6 glove made of DuPont Kevlar 29 aramid fabric. The back of the thumb is a special tanned leather, while the palm is made of Kevlar 29 with plastic dots applied for added gripping ability. The four-inch knit wrist is made of two layers of Kevlar 29 with welts at the base of the fingers, entire thumb and first finger to cuff. The glove is fully lined with an aluminized Kevlar cotton combination which slows down heat transfer above the required five-second time requirement. The fabric is flame resistant and can withstand limited contact exposure to temperatures up to 1000 degrees F.

Exit Bars

JEF Industries Inc., has introduced all stainless steel exit bars for cab forward type apparatus. The unit, when installed, serves as a vertical handrail and swings up horizontally to serve as an exit bar. A complete package consists of a pair of rails plus the necessary mounting brackets.

Mini Flashlight

A two A-cell, pocket sized flashlight has been introduced by ITT Jabsco Products. The Sireno Pro-Light Mini-Light has the durability of a full size light and measures 5 1/2 X 1 inch in diameter. It operates with a twist on/off switch with knurled exterior for positive grip. The flashlight is constructed of anodized aircraft aluminum alloy and weighs 3.8 ounces without batteries.

Heat Scanner

A new version of the 3M heat, scanner for detecting hidden fires and hot spots has been introduced by the company’s Fire Protection Systems. The improved model 202 utilizes infared and solid state technologies and registers small temperature differences in any area over which it is scanned. Improved features include an audible tone signal in addition to an indication meter and a wind/ dust shield.

Portable Light

Majol Portable Power Systems has introduced the Majolite, a 2008-watt quartz iodine illumination system. The portable lighting unit is fitted under a rotating beacon that elevates to 11 feet above ground level providing high visibility and long distance warning as well as daylight conditions for 200 feet. The system features a rotating beacon with three halogen lights under a colored dome, a two-million candle power strobe light, optional AC power outlets for tools and Majol’s custom regulated generator set with ± two percent voltage regulation.

Air Pack Brackets

Ziamatic Corporation has introduced Walkaway brackets to mount up to two breathing apparatus units on outside shelves and on top of most fire apparatus. The Zico upright bracket support, model UBS, is approximately 26 inches high with a base 10 inches wide and six inches deep, and features heavy wall tubular steel construction with a gray primer finish.

Antenna

Russell Industries Inc., has introduced the first Rubber Duckie antenna with five bands on a single unit. The spectrum covered is low, ham, VHF, UHF and UHF T-band. The antenna can be used on any scanner for single and multiple frequencies. A variety of bases are available in addition to the 5/16 X 32 and 1/4 X 32-inch bases ordinarily supplied.

Boots

Firecraft Division, Western Fire Equipment Company offers a line of fire fighter boots. Features include steel ladder shank, midsole and toe with sponge cushion exceeding the requirements of ANSI Z14.1 1967/75. They also have high-visibility, skid-resistant white soles and yellow safety stripe, foxing and toe. All styles are felt lined and contour molded. Knee and 3/4 length boots are available with felt lining or with foam insulation in uppers and extra thick felt soles.

Resuscitator

Dixie USA Inc. has announced improvements in its Thumper-Brand cardiopulmonary resuscitator system. Data from the company indicates a potential three-fold increase in cardiac output compared to typical manual CPR; a reduction in severe chest trauma; and an increase in long-term survival rates. In addition, patient care and support is not interrupted for defibrillation, ECG monitoring, transportation, intubation, or the introduction of IV therapy.

Reflective Trims

Cairns & Brother, Inc., and Reflexite Corporation have announced a line of Reflexite numbers, letters, and trim for fire fighters’ helmets. The trims are made of flexible UV stabilized vinyl plastic and come in a range of colors. Features include: reflective ability at both long and short ranges; smooth outer surface for easy cleaning; performance in wet or dry conditions; and protective outer surface which prevents reflecting elements from being rubbed off even with severe wear.

Paramedic Box

A plastic box for use by paramedics and emergency medical technicians has been manufactured by Flambeau-Vlchek Corporation. The box has 15 compartments in two trays. Overall size is 19 X 10 3/4 X 10 1/8-inches. It is molded of flame orange copolymer with white trays and is recommended for use in ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

Audio/Visual Program

Scott Aviation, Health/Safety Products, division A-T-O Inc., offers its second audio/visual program entitled “A New Breath of Life: Scott Air-Pak 4.5,” designed for instruction for use of the self-contained breathing apparatus, Air-Pak 4.5.

The program consists of 80 35mm colored slides, numbered and inserted in a Kodak Universal slide tray, a standard cassette tape, pulsed for automatic slide advance and a 16-page book duplicating the text of the tape. The audio portion of the program lasts approximately 17 minutes.

Lighting Units

Dual-Lite, Inc., Emergency Lighting-Division, has announced its NEMA 4X Series of industrial emergency lighting units. They are self-contained and will automatically switch emergency lamps on during a power outage to provide emergency lighting for a minimum of 90 minutes.

Features include sealed and gasketed construction and adjustable sealed beam heads, sealed lead calcium batteries, AC/high charge pilot light combination, low voltage battery disconnect and 120/277 60Hz universal transformer.

Fire Smoke Simulator

The fire-smoke simulator educational device is now available from American Animation, Inc. The simulator is designed to be used with any overhead projector. Smoke and fire movement is obtained when the projector’s light passes through specifically selected polarized material and the simulator’s polarizing spinner. Simultaneously projected on the screen are 35mm slides which allow the operator to construct teaching exercises involving structures, vehicles, or natural cover situations.

The unit comes in a training package which includes: a fire-smoke display frame; a motorized polarizing spinner; fire-smoke motion sheet; orange and blue transparent sheets; marking pencil; brush; fine aggregate and leveler.

Wheeler-Pilot International announces a line of hydrostatic test pumps. The units feature patented liquid loss measuring system; welded protective frame; liquid filled gages; choice of roller or piston pump units; and protective recirculation systems. Resuscitator

O-Two Systems is now distributing the Flynn manually-triggered emergency resuscitator.

The unit is designed for critical emergencies or routing transport. The valve can be converted from resuscitator to inhalator mode to provide the patient with oxygen therapy at variable flow rates and oxygen concentration.

Dual Detector Unit

A double protection smoke and fire detector which combines the ionization and photoelectric principles has been introduced by Pyr-A-Larm, Inc., a Baker Industries Company.

The ionization portion of the Guardion FBC model sniffs out combustion particles while the photoelectric eye responds to smoky-type fires. Either system can trigger an 85-decibel alarm.

The unit features two test buttons to assure that both detection circuits are working and a warning signal which activates up to 30 days before the nine-volt battery needs replacing.

Air Dryer

Deltech Engineering, Inc., has released its model PS210 heat less compressed air dryer designed to provide pressure dew points down to – 150°F.

The unit uses a nonconsumable desiccant to remove moisture from compressed air and provide a continuous supply of dry air by automatically cycling the How of air through two desiccant beds.

Other design feat ures include separate fill and empty ports, field-adjustable dew point, low air velocity through desiccant, and removable screens at top and bottom of vessels. Rated inlet air flow for the unit at -40°F PDP outlet air and 100 psig is 210 scfm.

Nevcom, Inc., has introduced the MagicMike CM-100 cordless power microphone for two-way radios. The unit can be operated from any vehicle within a distance of 10 feet.

Lighting System

An energy saving, 12-volt, high-intensity, halogen lighting system is available from Fairfield Medical Products. Light from a halogen bulb delivers 300 percent more illumination while drawing only one-half ampere from a 12-volt system.

A specially designed bulb housing, of 2 1/2-inch diameter, minimizes obstruction of view and keeps the lamp cool and safe. Average life span of the 20 watt bulb is 2000 hours.

Fire Hose

Boston Industrial Products Division, American Biltrite Inc., has introduced a woven, single-jacket hose as compact as linen and rugged as rubber-lined hose at half the weight.

The Boston Century II Fire Hose features a spun polyester jacket and a synthetic polymeric lining .015-inches thick and weighing 16 pounds per 100 feet. The jacket is mildew-proof and requires no drying after test or use. The lining has a smooth surface with less friction loss than linen. Available in 1 1/2-inch I.D., Century II is F.M. approved.

Emergency Light

HD Electric Company has announced the Versa-Lite 12-volt high-intensity portable light designed for general and emergency situations is now available. The light may be hand-held or temporarily mounted on ferrous metal surfaces by means of a 50-pound pull magnet located in the base. Both the standard type model with carrying handle on the back and the pistol grip type are available form 3000 to 300,000 candlepower, in spot, flood or dual beam.

Gloves

Miste, Inc., has introduced fire fighter’s gloves made with two protective barriers.

The outer shell, made of Miste’s Tri-Curve design glove, is anatomically constructed to help reduce hand fatigue through natural curves around the length of the hand, the knuckles and laterally from the wrist to, the little finger.

Waist Belt

Atlas Safety Equipment Co., Inc. has introduced a “San Francisco” type waist belt of heavy duty two-inch nylon webbing, with single tongue buckle.
