Shortly after 2:00 p.m. on November 23, 2018, Nash County (NC) 911 center received a call for a large frame workshop on fire in the back of a home on the 2500 block of Rackley Road in the Momeyer section of Nash County. Fire departments were dispatched from Station 17 Momeyer Fire-Rescue, Station, 10 Coopers Fire & Rescue Department, and Station 6 from Spring Hope Fire Company

The first-arriving engines reported that they had a working fire in a 1 1/2-story frame building with heavy fire showing in the C section of the structure. Flames were coming out of the roof and they were going in service with two 1 ¾-inch water lines for a interior attack

Momeyer Fire Captain Chase Bass requested an addition company from Station 14 Nashville to respond for more manpower. Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack and had most of the fire knocked down in the C section within 10 minutes.

The fire was placed under control about 25 minutes later. A total of 30 firefighters responded to the fire. They remained at the fireground for another two hours clearing hot spots and cleaning up.

A wood-burning heater in the large room in the C section of the building was determined to be the cause of the fire, and that room was a total loss. Three other rooms in the building had smoke and water damage. One firefighter was injured from a fall and treated on the scene by EMS.
