CHARLES COLEMAN, JR. has been named “Firefighter of the Year” by the Fullerton (CA) Firefighter’s Association. The 44-yearold, 14-year veteran of the fire service served in the Marine Corps where he attained the rank of sergeant. After the military, Coleman began preparing tor the fire service by taking fire science courses, earning an associate arts degree front Rancho Santiago College.

Aside from his routine duties with the Fullerton Fire Department, Coleman raises hinds for the Orange County Bum Association and assists with the Orange County Voter Registration Drive, the Orange County Food Bank, the Junior Firefighter Program, the Women’s Transitional Living Center, and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

BILL DRISCOLL, chief of the East Fork Fire Protection District in Douglas County, has been named chairman of the Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators. OTIS TURNER, assistant state forester for fire management for the Nevada Division of Forestry, is the new vice chairman.

The Sierra Front Wildfire Cooperators is comprised of local, state, and federal agencies along the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range in Nevada and California organized to present a united front against wildland fires in the region. Driscoll states that the high degree of cooperation and communication among the agencies provides the wildland/ urban interface areas in the region with a tremendous resource not only in fire suppression, but in areas such as fire prevention and natural fuels management.

PETER M. LAMB has been appointed fire chief/emergency management director for the Town of Lisbon, Maine. His command consists of two fire stations and 60 fire/rescue personnel. Lamb previously was chief fire marshal for the town of East Lyme, Connecticut. RICHARD MORRIS, former first assistant chief of the Niantic (C.T) Fire Department, replaces Lamb as chief fire marshal.

LARRY D. DONNER has been appointed fire chief of the Boulder (CO) Fire Department. He comes to Boulder from Iowa City, Iowa, where he served as chief for five years. Donner replaces Charles Boyes who retired after 23 years of service.

JOHN F. QUINN has been named hazardous materials industry specialist for Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA). In addition to his new assignment, he will continue to serve as asbestos abatement industry specialist, a position he has held since December of 1988. In his new position, he serves as a liaison between haz mat industry’ officials and MSA, soliciting insights for product development and studying industry trends.
