Kansas City in the “Heart of America” will provide the setting for the 106th Annual Conference of the International Association of Fire Chiefs at which an estimated 6000 chiefs, wives, guests and exhibitors will assemble from September 16 to 19. The program (below) will provide both an informative and entertaining four-day session for this, the largest fire service conference in the United States.

Featured speakers will cover such topics as fire fighter strikes—in England, the United States Fire Administration, and the Uniform Crime Reporting System.

Registration for the conference will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 15, in the H. Roe Bartle Convention Complex, where all the meetings and workshops will be held, and continue until Wednesday, September 18. Major social items include the traditional “FEMSA Night” on Monday, the 16th, an “Evening in a Kansas City Speakeasy” on Tuesday, the 17th in the Kansas City Trade Mart and, of course, the annual banquet at the Radisson Muehlebach Hotel on the 18th.

The official program starts at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, the 16th, with President James Shern of the IAFC and Host Chief John Waas presiding.

The program committee has grouped the traditional workshops into educational categories under Safety and Health, Administration and Management. Items to be covered include: “Emergency Incident Command and Control,” “Equal Employment Opportunity” and others. Most of the Monday workshops, which will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Convention Complex, firstfloor meeting rooms, will be repeated on Tuesday.

According to the program committee chairman, “the presentations are intended, not merely to discuss problems such as the ‘arson problem,’ but rather to identify those departments or organizations that have solved the problems, or are the sources of information that will help the workshop attendees to solve problems. Results and solutions, rather than concerns and needs, will be emphasized by the speakers.”

The last, but by no means least on the program, are the exhibits which will be open from 8:30 a.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday and on Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
