Early in the morning on March 9, 2013, companies from Detroit’s 5th battalion were dispatched for a townhouse fire at 1016 Charlotte Street.

Firefighters found heavy smoke inside an occupied unit. Members performed an interior attack and were told by neighbors that there might still be people inside. Firefighters rescued three children. No parents were home at the time and anywhere to be found.

The fire started in a dryer. Chief 5 requested Detroit police to the scene on account of the victims being alone.
