Out-of-City Firemen Man Stations During Funeral

Out-of-City Firemen Man Stations During Funeral

When the funeral was held for Bryan, Texas, Fire Fighter Richard Lopez, every man in the Bryan, Texas, Fire Department was able to attend because fire fighters from other municipalities volunteered to man the Bryan stations.

Lopez lost his life when he went into a blazing apartment house to search for persons who were reported to be trapped. They had already escaped.

As the result of an appeal by David White, training specialist with the Texas A&M University Fire Protection Training Division, more than 30 Fire fighters from Houston, Baytown, Waco and other cities manned the Bryan stations for 4 1/2 hours last August 23. The Bryan Police Department provided an officer to ride with each fire apparatus as a guide. There were no fires during the voluntary manning period.
