NFPA 1200 taken out of 1997 standards cycle

NFPA 1200 taken out of 1997 standards cycle

The NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 1200 standard draft has been removed from the Fall 1997 standard cycle and referred back to the Standards Council by the Committee on Fire Service Organization and Deployment. Several issues–including minimum response times for all types of fire departments–were not resolved at the June committee meeting.

According to Stephen Foley, NFPA staff liaison for the technical committee on fire service organization, deployment, and evaluation, the Standards Council met in July and heard testimony from a cross-section of fire service and municipal organizations during a public hearing. The testimony has been taken under advisement. An open forum to obtain any other public testimony on NFPA 1200 has been scheduled for the afternoon of Wednesday, November 19, during the NFPA Fall meeting in Kansas City, Missouri. The Standards Council will meet in executive session in January, at which time a decision on the proposed standard will be made, Foley explains.
