33nd Annual Steam Show at the Fire Museum of Maryland

On Saturday, May 1st, 2010 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., the Fire Museum of Maryland will host its 33nd Annual Steam Show.

Join us for a day full of fun as 65-foot water towers shoot water up to 600 feet! The Steam Show will feature steam engine demonstrations, horse-drawn fire equipment and carriages as well as contests for the kids. Apparatus will flow water and antique cars will fill the parking lot, with many opportunities to learn more about the advancement of fire engines throughout history. Come see the new 1870s Fire House Exhibit and hear the Baltimore City Alarm Office tap out fire emergency calls.

This event kicks off the museum’s summer hours. The museum is open from September-December, on Saturdays from 10am-4pm. From May-September, the museum is open Wednesday-Saturday from 10am–4pm and on Sunday from 1-4pm. The museum itself will also be open from 10-4 pm, complete with 40 fire engines, a working fire alarm office, audio tours of the Museum, and of the Great Baltimore Fire of 1904 as well as lots of fun things for kids to do in the Children’s Discovery Room. Children can put on turn out gear and climb on a 1938 Mack Fire Engine. In addition, there are games, fire-related toys, and activities geared especially for preschool and elementary school-age children. Weekdays during the summer, the FMM offers story time, movie time and crafts, as well as a special noon tour with Firefighter Tom Colleran, retired, BCFD.
