The Merseilles (IL) Fire Department‘s ALEXIS pumper works with a 3,500-gallon tanker as a first-out engine protecting a city and rural district, explains Chief Herb Johnson.

The St. Lawrence (WI) Fire Department replaced two vehicles with this medium duty ROSENBAUER rescue truck. Secretary/Lieutenant Jeff Weinert says that it responds to fires and first responder incidents in two townships.

The Norfolk (MA) Fire Department designed its E-ONE pumper to be multi-task functional, according to Lieutenant Peter Petruchik. Responding first-due to structural fires, haz mats, and MVAs, it has a large water tank since part of the jurisdiction is unhydranted.

The Tai’an Fire Department in China designed this W. S. DARLEY rescue truck after U.S. type rescue trucks to respond quickly to medical calls, vehicle accidents, and haz-mat spills, explains Troy Carothers, Darley CAFS product manager for export fire apparatus sales.

The Jefferson Township Fire Department, in Blue Creek, Ohio, designed its PIERCE pumper with an engine powerful enough to climb hills and rough areas, explains Chief Thomas Hackworth. The roll-up doors work well in narrow areas and the two-door cab reduces the unit’s length, allowing easier access to tight spaces.

The Hazlet Township (NJ) Technical Rescue Services has placed in service a RESCUE 1 support unit that backs up the township’s emergency services (fire and police departments, first aid squad and other Office of Emergency Management units), according to OEM Coordinator Thomas Horner.

The Salina City (UT) Fire Department‘s SMEAL pumper/tanker is designed to match the size of its other tanker, according to former Chief Kenny Ball. Hydrants are few and far between in the area the department protects.

The Tahoe-Douglas Fire Protection District in Zephyr Cove, Nevada, replaced its 75-foot platform with this taller SEAGRAVE Tower Max. Battalion Chief Van Ogami says that a platform enhances rescue operations from ski area gondolas and cliffs, and is also advantageous at high-rise fires and as a multitask unit with its pump and tank.

The Carlstadt (NJ) Fire Department designed this SUTPHEN pumper for maximum seating that allows firefighters don SCBA. Chief Bill Reeves also explains that the large tank enables a better initial attack and provides more water for incidents on highways, where water supply may be limited.

The top-mount pump panel offers safety and visibility; the large water tank provides sufficient water when supply is limited.

Two workers were killed and another seriously injured in an explosion Tuesday at a Delta Air Lines maintenance facility near the Atlanta airport.
