On the morning of July 7, 2019, the Mine Hill (NJ) Fire Department responded to a car-into-house incident on Bissell Street. Upon arrival, Chief Brian Daboul confirmed heavy structural damage to two load-bearing walls on the C/D corner as well as a damaged leaking oil tank and damaged electrical service.
Chief Daboul requested Dover Fire Department for Rescue 6 and Picatinny Arsenal for the hazmat team. Mine Hill Fire Engine 2 and Engine 3 stretched a hoseline as a precaution. Jersey Central Power & Light was summoned to the scene to secure the electrical service. Once the service was shut off, teams placed struts to support the home and removed the vehicle.
Upon evaluation, it was determined the oil tank was mostly empty and only a few gallons had spilled out of the tank. There were no injuries to the driver of the vehicle or the occupant of the home. Wharton Fire and Jefferson Fire provided station coverage for all units on scene. Mine Hill EMS provided patient evaluation and rehab for the firefighters due to the weather and duration of the incident.
