Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on June 10, 2019, North Carolina fire departments from Enfield, Halifax, and Whitakers from Nash County were dispatched to 300 N. McDaniel St. in  Enfield for a commercial building fire.

The first-in engine company reported they had a large 150×50, single-story building with heavy fire and smoke showing. They requested additional companies to assist from Halifax County, Scotland Neck, Darlington, and from Nash County companies Battleboro and Salem. Enfield laid out 400 feet of 5-inch supply hose to their aerial platform, plus numerous 2 1/2-inch attack lines.

As the other companies arrived, they laid out 2-inch and 1 3/4-inch water lines. There were a total of 35 firefighters battling this very smoky fire for more than five hours before the fire was placed under control. This was a very old building that was constructed in 1940. At that time it was a restaurant, and changed names numerous times. The present day occupants are a Laundromat and a Quick Sweepstakes building were the fire started. The fire is under investigation by the NCSBI along with the Enfield Police department. Halifax EMS were on the scene to provie rehab. There were no reports of any injuries.
