The Great Conflagration at San Francisco

The recent earthquakes in Japan and Ecuador occurred within days of the 110th anniversary of the April 18, 1906 San Francisco, California, earthquake and fire. Fire and Water Engineering’s initial report had held hopes for the recovery of San Francisco Fire Chief D.T. Sullivan, who with his wife was severely injured in the collapse of his firehouse. Sadly, he would succumb to his injuries. See the initial coverage of the catastrophe HERE. Also, see a comparison of the extent of fire damage to San Francisco with that of the 1871 Chicago, Illinois, and the 1904 Baltimore, Maryland, fires; a note of thanks from a San Francisco firefighter; and the destruction of public records HERE.
